Flirting, it's like riding a bike

Pickup Lines For Old People:
Grandpa: Hey baby, you better call life alert because I've fallen for you and can't get up

On that note... haha This reminded me of a few times where I have had patients hitting on each other, and on me. Once they are getting up in age, they tend to forget a lot of things that they used to believe in or standards they used to have, etc. Family members get upset because their parents are doing things they didn't used to think was appropriate, and expect staff to be able to keep them apart. One couple that we had was quite hilarious, his family had requested that we try to keep them separate, and so as I was just leaving around 9 or 10 every night, without fail, I would catch her sneaking, literally tiptoeing and crouching down trying to sneak into his room to visit him. I would always send her back to bed, much as you would chastise a 5 year old for being caught out of bed.

The other day I was at work, I was working a double and a guy friend of mine was coming to visit me during my dinner break, so I had made an extra effort to get ready, and as I was gathering patients for breakfast I heard a wolf whistle from behind me, and one of my patients was pushing his walker towards me saying "Who's looking good today? Your hair looks really great" and I put on my polite smile...(that patient has been known for some nasty comments) and quickly took off at a fast pace. As women aides though, we get pretty used to some indecent comments or being hit on, it can become funny after a while.

The last story is of a patient who was a pretty feisty lady, she would flip you off as you entered her room to take care of her, which became really funny pretty darn fast. We would sit her out on the couch, and if a male patient sat next to her, we would watch for the inevitable: She would smile a flirty mischievous smile, look out of the corner of her eye at the man, and then start unbuttoning her shirt, and we would have to sprint for her to get after her to stop.

Not much changes as we get older, we still want to flirt and connect with people :) and chaperones are still close by, dressed a little differently, but with the same purpose.
